What is CAMTech?

The Consortium for Affordable Medical Technologies (CAMTech) is a global consortium of academic, clinical, corporate and implementation partners working to expedite and improve affordable medical technology development for low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). CAMTech's mission is to co-create, test and deploy innovative, high-quality and affordable health technologies to improve health outcomes in the poorest regions of the world. CAMTech's first priority area will focus on maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH).

Current Consortium Members

  • Harvard Medical School
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
  • Mbarara University of Science and Technology (Uganda)
  • Lata Medical Research Foundation
  • Vellore Institute of Technology (India)

CAMTech Objectives

Imagine a coordinated effort by some of the best engineers, clinicians, public health policymakers and industry leaders collaborating to develop innovative medical technologies for LMICs.  CAMTech brings together interdisciplinary world-class teams across institutions, geographies, specialties and sectors to accelerate product development, mitigate technology and market risks, and ultimately deliver quality products in LMIC health settings.

CAMTech's specific objectives are to:

  1. Create a pipeline of innovative health technologies through Innovation Awards;
  2. Build a global network and ecosystem that connects engineers, clinicians and business leaders to global health technology development and commercialization;
  3. Incorporate business sustainability and public health impact early and iteratively to ensure commercial viability and widespread adoption using existing market forces in LMICs;
  4. Develop new sustainable models for developing, commercializing and delivering innovative health technologies in LMICs;
  5. Launch Innovation Labs, where we use co-creation as an innovative approach incorporating  end-user input at every step of technology development.
