LOINC® Content Developer

Regenstrief Institute, Inc., an international leader in electronic medical record systems development and medical vocabulary systems is seeking an energetic individual with a Medical Technology, Medical Genetics, or Genetic Counseling background to help develop Logical Observations Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC®, http://loinc.org).

LOINC is a widely adopted terminology standard that facilitates the exchange and pooling of clinical results for clinical care, outcomes management, and research by providing a set of universal codes and names to identify laboratory and other clinical observations. LOINC is an essential ingredient for efficient electronic processing and storage of clinical data that comes from many independent sources. Regenstrief Institute is the overall steward of LOINC, and continues to lead its development as an open and no-cost standard.

Regenstrief Institute is a not-for-profit healthcare research organization located near IUPUI's campus in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. It is closely affiliated with the IU School of Medicine, Roudebush VA Medical Center and Wishard Health Services.  This individual will be an integral part of the LOINC Development Program located at the beautiful, new Health Information & Translational Sciences building located at the basin of the canal. Requirements:
* Bachelor's or advanced degree in Medical Technology, Medical Genetics, Genetic Counseling or other clinical subject domain.
* A minimum of 5 years of field experience in clinical subject domain or scientific writing is required.  
* Excellent writing and editing, organizational, communication, and time management skills; attention to detail; ability to develop, maintain, and meet deadlines.
* Working knowledge of Access (or equivalent database system) is strongly preferred.
* Must be able to work independently with minimum direction, adjust to varying amounts of work, use time efficiently, be self motivated, solve problems, and work with individuals with highly variable technical backgrounds
* Must be willing and able to develop expertise in vocabularies from domains outside of primary field of training
* Must be physically able to work 40 hours per week including the flexibility to work overtime to meet deadline
* Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
* Must have manual dexterity to operate a keyboard and pointing device
* Must be able to travel around campus or to outside meetings as necessary
* Must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time
* Must be able to effectively communicate with others
* Must be able to do light lifting and carrying of supplies and equipment generally found in an office setting
