CALL FOR PAPERS
Journal of Medical Systems Special Issue
Agent-Empowered HealthCare Systems
www.springer.com/10916
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aims and Scope
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Agent-Empowered HealthCare Systems Special Issue intends to provide a
discussion forum on the most recent and innovative work regarding the study and
application of agent-based technology to healthcare. A healthcare facility faces
diverse and complex everyday challenges, ranging from equipment and drug
inventory management to patient clinical record and follow-up management, or
even patient monitoring in either a hospital or home environment, and patient
transportation scheduling. At the same time, the progressive maturity of agent
technology methodologies and tools has led to the development of applications in
many complex real-world domains. Covering a wide spectrum of research areas,
this special issue intends to bring together communities from Computer Science
and Agent-Based Systems and Clinicians working on Healthcare, Medicine and
Biomedicine, providing a presentation and discussion forum for researchers in
the area, highlighting innovative approaches, multidisciplinary works, and defining
future research directions.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Topics of Interest
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Submissions should concern the use of agents (virtual or physics) encompassed
in the healthcare context - e.g. ranging from equipment and drug inventory
management to patient clinical record and follow-up management, or even
patient monitoring in either a hospital or home environment, and patient
transportation scheduling.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Medical Data Management
- Information Retrieval and Knowledge Management
- Agent-based Information Provider Services
- Remote Care, Telemedicine
- Mobile Agents in Hospital Environments
- Robotics in Healthcare (Prosthetics / Surgical Robotics)
- Impact of Agents and Robots in Patient Quality of Life
- Patient Empowerment through Personalised Agent-based Systems
- Patient Management (e.g. through agent cooperation, distributed patient
scheduling)
- Planning and Resource Allocation
- Medical Agent-based Decision Support Systems, including Recommender
Systems, Patient Diagnosis and Monitoring Systems
- Agent-based Patient Monitoring and Diagnosis
- Agent-based Medical Training and Education (e.g. tutoring systems)
- Ethics, Legal Issues and Security in Healthcare Agent-based Systems
We are also accepting surveys providing an up to date view of the state of the art
in the area of agents in healthcare

PAPER FORMATTING, SUBMISSION AND REVIEWING
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Authors should follow the guide to authors available at Journal of Medical
Systems website to format their article
(http://www.springer.com/new+%26+forthcoming+titles+%28default%29/journal/1
0916). Please note that, for the initial submission, only PDF format of
submissions is allowed. Papers to this special issue should be submitted via the
online Springer Editorial Manager System.
Each paper submission will be peer-reviewed by at least three reviewers. The
guest editors will screen the submissions for eligibility and quality. Special issue
articles should report on significant previously unpublished work.
Authors submitting revised and substantially extended versions of workshop or
conference papers should identify the original publication and include a
description clarifying the new contributions in the submission and the differences
to the original publication. Note that all contributions must have at least 40% of
new previously unpublished material. All submissions will be filtered through the
selected anti-plagiarism software by the guest editors.
It is planned that the accepted articles will appear in one of the issues of the
Journal of Medical Systems, edited and published by Springer, in 2015 or early
2016.
